How many inches can a PCI-E x16 slot accommodate for a video card?

I'm getting a new video card but I need to know if it can even fit in my motherboard without opening up my PC to look at it. Can GeForce 9500 GT DDR 2, 9400 GT, 8500 GT, 8400 GS fit into my MS-7366 motherboard with a PCI-E x16 slot? Please suggest other video cards if you can(only single-slotted ones).|||stop being a lazy bastard and open your case and look. It really depends on your computer case and not your motherboard.

Does PCI Express x16 slot supports pci express 2.0 x16 video cards?

Hello.I have a Asus M2N motherboard with a Pci express X16 slot. I have now an ATI radeon x550 (pci expressX16) and i was wondering if it would work if i instaled a pci express 2.0 X16 video card?

Thank you very much.|||Yes you are able to install a PCI X16 card into a 2.0 slot. Your issue will be that although it will support the card. The card itself will run slower to run in the 16 slot. So performance of the card will be reduced.

Are there any video cards that will fit my PCI slots?

I have 2 PCI slots in my computer but if i look at video cards on the internet that have different slot positions. The slot is like this, and bare with me

________________________

l__________________l_____l That's like the actual slot part. Are there any cards that will fit it?

the part on the left is the part closest to the back of my computer by the way.|||Well cant tell you much by your photo(nice try tho!) but it seems it will work. Most of the time the PCI connectors on your motherbaord are usually color coded. For mine the x16 slot(the one you need for graphics card) is colored blue. Also since if your only have 2 on your motherboard then that must be REALLY old and might need to upgrade..because motherboards now a days have around 7(aftermarket) and retail come with 4-5. Or your can also try looking at your motherbaord really close and some motherboards that i've seen have a description of the component on the bottom for example "PCI x16 , HDD " etc"

Can PCI video cards be installed on a motherboard that has an AGP slot?

I have a computer with a AGP video card already installed, but am looking for a secondary video card am I am able to install a PCI video card on my motherboard? Any information to help shed light would be great.

Best Regards|||You can if you have a pci slot. You can only use 1 graphics card at a time though.|||If you are wanting to bridge them to get more memory for graphics, I don't believe you can. You can have SLI configurations but I think all ports have to be the same. AGP, PCI, or PCI-e.|||As long as it is not a pci express card. I have not seen an AGP board that had pci express on it at the same time. If the card is just a PCI, then more than likely you have a few on your MB. I dont think you will find too many pci video cards out there, unless there older models. Check the box, a pci express is usually labeled PCI-X, or PCI-Express

What is the difference between a PCI slot and a PCI express slot? Can I use a PCIe video card with a PCI slot

I want to upgrade to a PCIe video card. However my board has PCI slots. Do I need to get a new board? Should I bother. Since I have a 2.8mhz right now going to a new board might not be a bad thing... Any help or advice would be great.|||No, pci-e is newer and faster.|||what?

YOur MB may have PCI slots, but not PCI e 16x slots. IT may have AGP. THe difference between th estandart PCI and 16x i sthat 16x is used for GFX's and is faster|||The following link should adequately answer your questions regarding PCI vis-a-vis PCI Express -

A PCLe card is incompatible with a PCI slot.

Does your existing box fulfill your computing needs -- if the answer is yes then don't waste your hard earned dough.A faster PCLe card is a necessity if you are a hardcore gamer & you like all the eye candy.

Stave off fresh purchases until the hardware market settles down a bit -- with new chips & chipsets due to hit the market future-proofing your investment becomes absolutely necessary.Remember Vista will have a tough minimum hardware requirement -- so plan carefully.

Hope this helps.|||no because pcie is faster and i think the pcie cards are smaller|||The current PCI standard allows for a 32-bit bus that has a maximum throughput of 133MB/s. This133MB/s of bandwidth must be shared between all of the PCI peripherals. Graphics quickly outstripped all of the other components in the system. To alleviate this, the AGP interface was developed to give a dedicated channel to the graphics. But now gigabit Ethernet interfaces and UltraATA/133 and SerialATA devices are quickly catching up to this 133MB/s limit.

This is where the PCI Express system is designed to alleviate problems. In its current proposed first revision, the system has the capability of allowing a single interface adapter to receive as much as 16GB/s of data bandwidth. This is achieved through the movement away from the old parallel models to the higher speed serial interconnects. Future revisions expect to have even higher bandwidth

Can i connect a PCI Express x16 video card to a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot on my Motherboard?

i have a slot in my motherboard named PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot. but i bought a video card with PCI Express x16. can i attach this card to PCI express 2.0 x16 slot?......or i need any other slots?(i dont have any slots that named "PCI Express x16 slot").|||PCIe 1.0/1.1 and PCIe 2.0 use the same x16 PCIe SLOT. It is just that PCIe 2.0 slot has higher bandwidth (2x) and higher wattage rating (2x) than PCIe 1.0/1.1. All PCIe graphics cards will work on all those slots.

It is just the high-end, multi-GPU cards that get bottlenecked by PCIe 1.0/1.1 slots that's why there's the need for the high bandwidth of PCIe 2.0.|||Yes, you can. The "2.0" is just the version.

Will any PCI video card work in a PCI express slot?

If not, what kinds of video cards will work in a PCI express slot?|||No, absolutely not, it MUST be a PCIe, PCI express card.

It is pretty hard to find straight PCI video cards these days, so your two choices will be AGP (Wrong one) and PCIe, (Right one)

Good Luck|||PCI video card is different to PCI express, When you buy a video card find the word PCI Express in the package!|||Only PCI-E video cards will work in a PCI-E slot. I think their also, but if you have a 16x video card make sure you have a 16x PCI-E slot. Another misconception is that PCI X is the same as PCI-E but PCI X is for servers.|||yes, i guess|||Just because it sounds the same does not mean a thing. check websites for the card you have and then check your pc website for compatibility. Here they will show you the right upgrades made for youe pc.|||Even though they sound alike, and indeed, the slots may even LOOK a little alike, rest assured that they are COMPLETELY incompatible.

While they share a similar array of "pins" in the center, it's the way they USE them that's different.

To put it in short, PCI is a "parallel" interface, meaning that it uses ALL of the pins for each signal pulse; using them, it can transfer up to 32 bits at a time. Given that PCI operates at 33MHz, that yields a potential maximum transfer rate of 133 MB a second.

PCI-e, in spite of the name, is a "serial" interface, meaning that it uses multiple independent channels; (called "lanes" here) for a PCI-e graphics card, there are 16 of them: hence, that "PCI-e x16" or "PCI-e x1" names you might've seen listed the numberl of lanes that slot had. Each lane can only transfer one single BIT at once, but they can then run at absurdly high speeds; I believe it's 2,500 MHz (2.5GHz) for PCI-e. Because some "overhead" (error correction, etc.) are figured in, it works out to an effective 2,000 MHz, for 250MB a second PER LANE, or a total of about 4GB per second for a PCI-e x16 graphics card.

As you would now realize,it's technically impossible to get one to work with the other.
