Is Pci express 2.0 video card compatible with a pci express x16 slot?

I plan to buy a PCI EXPRESS 2.0 video card and I don`t know if will be compatible with pci express x16 slot. My motherboard:P5LD2-X/1333.|||Will it fit into the slot and function? yes. Will you get all that the card has to give? Not likely.

The reason being that while the interface is the same, most motherboards do not yet support the 2.0 technology.

Think of it like the difference between usb 1.1 and 2,0. If you plug a usb 2,0 device into a 1.1 slot it will function, but not at 2,0 speeds.

the difference is that the pcie problem could theoretically be fixed with software, such as new firmware, or bios updates, possibly even as simple as driver updates.

Maybe the mobo manufacturers will get on this and we can all soon see just what it will take to get our mobos up to speed.

hope that helps.|||It should be just fine. The newer mobo's are backwards compatible. The only thing is that you might not get the full advantages of the 2.0 card.
